Beth Hillel Temple Mission Statement

Religious Opportunities

Community Outreach

Beth Hillel is a small and vibrant Reform Jewish Congregation dedicated to the spiritual, educational, and social needs of its diverse membership. Our small size results in rich intergenerational experiences, involved members, and a warm and caring community where everyone knows your name. We strive to achieve understanding among ourselves and our neighbors as we engage in community involvement, Jewish celebration, learning, and living.

Regularly scheduled services are held every Friday night. They include a special Family Service and early Kabbalat Shabbat Services once a month. Also, for the convenience of our Racine members, Shabbat services are held at the home of a Racine member once every other month.

In addition, a monthly Saturday morning Learner's Minyan proceeds at a slower pace. This allows the participants to learn while they pray. Every member has the opportunity to participate in services. The major holidays are observed in the temple. Children are welcome at all services; often babysitting is available. Yizkor is held four times a year.

Outside of the temple Sanctuary, the Beth Hillel holds a second night community Seder for Passover, a break-fast at sundown on Yom Kippur, a Tu B'shvat Seder, and a Chanukah celebration, among others.

We have always maintained a high level of community outreach. Rabbi Feingold actively promotes awareness of and sensitivity to religious and racial diversity. Throughout her many years at Beth Hillel Temple, she has served on the boards of numerous service organizations, and she has encouraged temple members to become involved in interfaith community projects. Our Chemerow Educational and Cultural Programs are free and open to the public, as are other special events of this nature. We are involved in a community Thanksgiving celebration and in a community commemoration of the Holocaust. Our members have participated in the Kenosha Crop Walk, and we serve at the Shalom Center's Soup Kitchen once a month and on Christmas and Easter.

CUSH Membership (www.cushwi.org)

Beth Hillel Temple has made a commitment to Congregations United to Serve Humanity (CUSH). Harriet Lavin represents Beth Hillel at the monthly Board meetings of CUSH, an advocacy group made up of several Kenosha congregations. Morey Manyoky is our Homeless and Housing Representative. Its purpose is to advocate and provide leadership on issues of community concern in the greater Kenosha area.
